Book Review: Am I There Yet?

For my 400th post, I’ll be sharing a mini review of the book Am I There Yet? by Mari Andrew. This book has been such a comfort to me since purchasing it at the beginning of the year and I can’t believe I haven’t posted about it yet.

Like most people, I found out about Mari Andrew’s artwork through Instagram, and then started to see it popping up all over the place on blogs and different publications. Her images, accompanied with short, succinct writings, are relatable, often wistful, and sometimes punch you in the gut when you least expect it.

Am I There Yet? The Loop-de-Loop, Zigzagging Journey to Adulthood is a collection of essays that share the story behind her artwork, including the time in her life she created it, the deeper meaning behind it, and sometimes the fact that there is no deeper meaning that can be explained. At the same time, there is pretty much an image for everything you could feel or experience in life, and I think that’s a huge part of the appeal of her work.

If you haven’t already, I would go check out her Instagram and follow along. One of the things I look forward to most each day is seeing what new art she has posted. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a little reassurance about life in general. It would make a great gift for someone, or even yourself, and I promise you will be returning to it again and again because that’s exactly what happened to me.

P.S. Have you noticed a new look to Words for Everything? I just went through a website re-design. It was something that had been itching at me for a while and over the course of the long weekend last week, I decided to take the plunge and go for a change. I hope you like it.
