Mascara Roundup & Review
I hoard mascara and I am not afraid to admit it. I pulled six out of my makeup drawer at random to review for you today. Enjoy!
Smashbox: Full Exposure, and they mean it. This one goes on really thick, so you have to make sure your first coat is your best coat! Otherwise, it is prone to clumping.
Ulta Beauty: A solid, reliable mascara, the Ulta Beauty maximum lashes has become one of my favorites in recent months! The bristles are small and varied just enough to create a nice, even look that’s easy to apply.
Maybelline Rocket: A total mess! Sadly, it seems that the cooler the packaging, the worse the product is (sometimes). Unless applied very, very, very carefully, Maybelline Rocket will cause all of your eyelashes to stick together.
Maybelline Great Lash: I have had the best results with this classic mascara by far. The brush is thin but you can apply more than one coat without it building up and getting sticky.
Covergirl: Again, the unique brush design at first looks like it will be great but this one actually was quite hard to figure out! The little bit on the top just got in the way of what was otherwise a pretty decent brush with tiny little bristles that were good for creating an even look.
Lancome: I was super disappointed with this one! The brush ruined it entirely. I like Lancome mascara on the whole, but the brush design of the Hypnose Drama one doesn’t do it any favors. If you apply it up close and slowly, it’s not too terrible, but you don’t always have that kind of time in the morning so it’s gotten much less use than the others.
The winners? Maybelline Great Lash and Smashbox. They had minimal clumping and overall good coverage. I don’t recommend the Lancome Hypnose Drama at all, but I think it was the weird swiggly brush that doomed this mascara.
