Sage Living: Decorate for the Life You Want by Anne Sage has been one of the most interesting design books I have read so far. A lot of design books and blogs stress designing elements in your living space to compliment your lifestyle. Anne Sage takes an entirely different approach and suggests you decorate your space for the life you want.

A unique premise to be sure. But how to achieve this? Sage profiles individuals and families and shows how they were able to achieve this in their homes, and gives tips on how you can “bring it home” and incorporate elements into your own living space.

My favorite chapters were dining rooms and home offices. I am naturally drawn to these spaces because no matter who you are or where you live, these spaces seem to always become multi-functional whether you intend for them to be or not; we eat in the dining room but also in our offices and vice versa, we set up projects in our home offices and they inevitably always end up on the dining room table, which always ends up as a landing pad for odds and ends.

“We’re all creative, whether we think so or not…given the extensive role that creativity plays in every are of our lives, we can heighten and hone it to make our workdays more fluid and our weekends more fun.”

The photography by Emily Johnston is a wonderful asset to the book. Each page features images that perfectly tell the stories of the people and families whom Sage has helped design their homes thoughtfully and with care.

I’m definitely going to keep some of these tips and ideas in mind for decorating and planning in the future. There are a ton more ideas and posts full of inspiration on her blog as well, annesage.com 🙂
