As the saying goes, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
It’s all too easy to fall into a rut of doing the same thing every day (work, eat, sleep, rinse, repeat) but how can you expect anything in your life to change unless you change the things you do every day?

I try to remind myself of this every day. Here’s how it works: if you are feeling lazy, do something that will make you feel energetic. Go for a power walk or a jog around the block, or take your dog to the dog park. Doing some form of physical activity will give you an endorphin boost and it will counter that voice in your head that’s making you feel like you’re lazy.
Or maybe you feel unproductive, unorganized? Take it one step at a time and make a to-do list.For example, household tasks seem to be the most tiring because when you get home from a long day at work it’s hard to feel jazzed about cleaning the bathroom, right? So make a list of tasks you have to do…
- Clean the kitchen
- Plan your meals for the week
- Clean out the car
- Take that bag of clothes that’s been sitting in the hall closet to a donation center
- Tidy up that pile of junk that’s accumulating in the entryway
…and add something you’ve already done. If you’ve already cleaned up the kitchen, cross it off the list. It sounds simple, but just the act of crossing it off your list will make you feel more productive, and give you more drive to complete the rest of your tasks.
Feeling unorganized? Take it slow. Clean out one shelf in your closet, or one drawer of your desk, or one corner of the kitchen. As with starting to be more productive, cleaning up just one space or corner of your house can help you start to feel more organized and allow you to feel like you’re getting somewhere.
Keeping the mantra act the way you want to feel in your head will really help guide you in the direction you want to go.

The Blogger Recognition Award is about reflecting on how your blog got started, and offering advice to new bloggers, so here we go!
I started my blog in February 2015 when I was in my senior year of college. I knew I wanted to write and post book reviews but I wasn’t sure there would be a place for that online. Boy was I wrong! It turns out there is a whole community of book reviewers and book lovers here, and a niche for every genre out there which was so great and encouraging to see.
I felt like I wasn’t doing enough outside school to further my writing, even though I distinctly remember that spring semester as I was taking 6 classes and working part time. It was quite an intense and exhausting time for me, and I wanted to do something fun with writing outside of college, which led me to WordPress and ties into to my first piece of advice to new bloggers:
- Write about what you care about. Even though I thought no one would be interested in reading book reviews, that was what I chose to write in the beginning. It was what mattered to me most at the time so I just went with it. Originality is what will set your blog apart from everyone else’s and when you write about what you love, it shows. Don’t force your blog to be anything right away. Just explore other blogs and think about what makes you happiest and start there. Once you start writing it will become like second nature.
- Be consistent. It may sound obvious but if you want your blog to be successful, you need to post, and frequently. As I said, I started my blog during a very busy time in my life, and shortly after getting my undergraduate degree I began my coursework for my Masters. I remained incredibly busy for the next year (working two jobs now) and there was not a lot of free time for me to work on my blog. It showed. I have huge gaps in my archives because I simply didn’t have time to post or work on new content. If you aren’t consistent with posting and engaging with other bloggers your blog might fall flat, leading you to feel like there is no point in having a blog at all. My recommendation is to go to your Reader tab and explore some other blogs. Find some you love, follow and comment and get back into the groove of blogging.
All of this ties into how closely your actions and feelings go together. If you want something, you need to actually take the steps to achieve it. No one can do this but you. You can’t expect to wake up one day and have your life perfectly organized, your blog the masterpiece that you dream of, or whatever your ambitions are if you don’t work towards them each day. Act the way you want to feel, spend time doing what makes you happiest, and be consistent.
