A couple weeks ago, while it was snowing like crazy everywhere else in the country it was raining like crazy here. I was not too excited about being stuck inside all weekend but then I saw this tutorial for how to make a DIY succulent garden and thought it was too cute not to try!
As far as crafts go this one was very cheap to make especially if you already own a glue gun and a small glass vase of some sort. And if you don’t, both can be found for next to nothing a your nearby craft store. You can use any color of felt to make the succulents, and it turns out the more colorful you make them the cuter they look.
If you’re using lighter colors, the tutorial suggests coloring the tips of the felt with a fabric marker to add some flair, which you can see in action in the video here. I got a lot of extra felt so I could practice cutting different leaf styles, but once you get the hang of it it’s like you’re on autopilot. It’s also a great activity to do while listening to music or podcasts 🙂
I chose some white rocks (also available at craft stores) to accentuate the colors. I made a total of three little matching square glass containers each with 4-5 felt succulents. They can be displayed on a table or coffee table, countertop or on a window sill to get some sunshine 🙂
