It seems like everyone is going through roller coaster emotions these days. With the chaos of current events and just plain old life in general, it can be hard not to succumb to the negativity online and let it bring you down into the dumps. I know that I personally have had days (even just this past week) where I had a wonderful day, only to come home and check out my newsfeed and let the headlines instantly turn my mood sour.
It’s not realistic to try to shut out the world because we need to stay informed and involved. In fact, it is important now more than ever to stay informed. But it is also important to know how to manage how you process everything around you and to not let it bring you down.
If you personally aren’t experiencing this, chances are you know someone who is. It can be hard to know what to say to a friend or loved one who is going through hard times, but here are some ideas:
- “Just take it one day at a time.”
- “I’m here for you.”
- “However this turns out, I know you’ll make the best of it.”
- “You are enough.”
These seemingly simply phrases will speak volumes to the friend you are trying to console because more often than not, the thing that will help them the most is you just being there and listening to them. This is how you let them know that you are listening.
Also, repeating these phrases to yourself and reminding yourself that no matter how bad today may seem, the sun will rise tomorrow and you will have a new day and a fresh start is never a bad thing either 🙂
