What Do You Listen to While You Write?

Happy November, and the start of NaNoWriMo!

I had a conversation with someone recently and I mentioned that I pretty much always listen to music while I write and she was shocked. How could I write and listen to music at the same time, she wondered. Uh, how could I not? As someone who is inspired by music every day, I can’t imagine purposely not listening to music while I write.

I definitely seem to go through phases when it comes to music, and although I’m open to all genres and types of music, I do have my favorites. Here’s a list of twenty songs (in no particular order) that I’ve been listening to on repeat as of late. No idea why, other than I just happen to really like them. Not all were available on SoundCloud, but you can find them on Pandora or Apple Music or whatever else you use 🙂 What do you listen to while you write?

  1. Alina Baraz & Galimatias “Pretty Thoughts (FKJ Remix)”
  2. Kiiara “Intention”
  3. Haim “The Wire”
  4. The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey “Closer”
  5. Travis Scott “First Take”
  6. Drake “Feel No Ways”
  7. The Colurist “Little Games”
  8. St. Lucia “Dancing on Glass”
  9. Haim “Let Me Go”
  10. The Knocks “Classic”
  11. St. Lucia “Elevate”
  12. Scavenger Hung “Lost”
  13. Beyoncé “Love Drought”
  14. Ariana Grande “Sometimes”
  15. The Weeknd “Losers”
  16. Ellie Goulding “Aftertaste”
  17. John Mayer “Another Kind of Green”
  18. Coldplay “Shiver”
  19. John Newman “Gold Dust”
  20. Kanye West “Robo Cop”

I’m the type of person that listens to songs I love on repeat all day, so some days I listen to the same song literally the entire day (really). It’s always nice to meet people who do the same thing and who get it 🙂

“What do you listen to while you write?” is th nicest q I’ve been asked this past fortnight, thanks! So I have to answer.
Yes, I like to listen to music while I’m writing! German Techno gets my ol’ creative juices flowin!
If that sounds too heavy – and to help u relax after a trying week for u – may I recommend my most oft-played artist: YAGYA – th most gorgeous ambient soundscapes I’ve ever heard. Tracks from his 2009 album RIGNING (Norwegian for ‘raining’!) are up on Youtube – enjoy!
