“I have this theory about words. There’s a thousand ways to say “Pass the salt.” It could mean… “Can I have some salt?” Or it could mean, “I love you.” It could mean, “I’m very annoyed with you.” Really, the list could go on and on. Words are little bombs, and they have a lot of energy inside them.”
I came across this quote recently on my Instagram feed. I follow an account called _nitch which features quotes from famous celebrities, actors, writers, directors, scientists, athletes (both living and deceased) on a daily basis. I highly recommend it because I am constantly taking screen shots of quotes I want to remember for later.
This one struck me because of how closely it relates to the title of this blog. I have a thing about words, which most readers and writers here on WordPress would probably identify with. They carry so much meaning, dialogue especially. For me, when I read a passage that uses the least amount of words possible to convey something significant, like “Pass the salt”, I get goosebumps. It’s amazing what we can do with words, and what we can do with so few of them in such a short space and in such a short time.
